In July 2016 I attended the EuroPython conference in Bilbao, and added a few personal days as I hadn't been to the Basque country before.
Bilbao is an interesting place, full of fascinating architecture and art, and the surrounding area is also worth exploring – I hired a car for one day and drove along the coast and visited Guernica, a town which was attacked by German air forces in the Spanish civil war and prompted Picasso's famous eponymous piece of art. It would well be worth returning at some point to spend more time in this place.
